Editorial by Sean Foster
I recently read somewhere that Call of Duty 7 was in development by game developer Treyarch. It did not take a rocket scientist to know that Activision has two developers working on the Call of Duty franchise. This has been going on since Call of Duty 3.
Now before you read on, I want to point out that I am a huge fan of both Infinity Ward and Treyarch. Each company hs given me hours of great gaming joy with their titles. So this article is not about bashing any of these two great developers. What I am writing about is the constant bashing that I see in forums, message boards and comment sections. And I think it is about time that the Treyarch bashing comes to an end.
First off, let me start by talking about Treyarch’s own Call of Duty 3. I happen to be a huge fan of the Xbox 360 game. I have had hours and hours of fun and laughs playing Call of Duty 3 online. It was one of the first Xbox 360 games that really allowed myself to get knee-deep in Xbox Live with all of my friends from around the world. I live in Florida yet this is the game that allowed me to play with friends in California, Baltimore and other regions of the US. I also loved the fact that I could jump into a jeep with a friend and run people over or I could climb into a tank and blow the shit out of somebody. I just really enjoyed the feel of Call of Duty 3. Sure it was not the same game as Call of Duty 2 but who really cares? Two different games on two different game engines. To this day I still go back and play Call of Duty 3 and I enjoy the hell out of it. The game may look and feel somewhat dated but it is still one hell of a ride when i boot it up in my Xbox 360.
I also happen to really enjoy World War II-based games. Most of my FPS collection consists of every Call of Duty game, every Medal of Honor game, etc. Most of my family on both sides (mother and father) were in the War. They fought these wars and they actually lived it. I also just love the era and the weapons that were used. Can you imagine trying to fight a war with these weapons today? Still with these weapons you can have a ton of fun online. Thank god for perks and attachments.
Back on topic, Infinity Ward came back to make the stellar Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The game is one of the best first-person shooters on the market today and it made a huge impact on how future FPS are made. Infinity Ward pretty much took the series to a whole new level. But in doing this it also made some of the fans turn on Treyarch, which I just do not understand? Call of Duty: World at War was announced to a cloud of anger in the COD community. Most wanted Infinity Ward to do a follow-up (which they did) or they bitched and moaned about the games settings or the World War era. It almost got to the point of the gaming community making calls for Treyarch’s head on a platter. The question that needs to be asked is why?
I personally like Call of Duty: World at War a tad bit more then COD4. I love both games but to me it comes down to the era in which the game is based (because I love WW2 games) and the co-op and kick-ass zombie mode. To me, Treyarch took the Call of Duty 4 engine and made it their own. They first did it with Quantum of Solace (which I happen to like as well) and then with the COD follow-up. Call of Duty: World at War is a perfect follow-up to Call of Duty 3 and it is to me the best World War II first person shooter to date. I feel like the game is a love child of Call of Duty 3 and Cal of Duty 4, meaning it has the WWI era look and style of Call of Duty 3 and the great gameplay, awesome online modes and sheer excitement of Call of Duty 4. Treyarch took Infinity Wards gem engine and added new twists like dog attacks, tanks, flamethrowers and a decent co-op play. They added “Zombie Mode” which is in my opinion is one of the coolest concepts ever to hit the series. I would personally buy the zombie game by itself for $60 as long as Treyarch keeps updating the game with new maps. The concept is great (which was used in the great 1970’s horror flick Shockwaves) and killing Nazi zombies has never been so much fun. Treyarch also took the game and added balls. This is the most brutal Call of Duty game to date. Gore and body parts fills the screen most of the time. You see bodies being ripped and blown apart from tank and mortar fire.
What is the point of bashing a game company if they are trying hard and giving you what you want. It just does not seem fair to that game company. And it was not Treyarch that decided to make every other Call of Duty game in the series. Activision is a business and they are looking to make their franchise titles thrive and sell games. Outsourcing franchise names to multiple game developers is nothing new to the industry and it will continue to be done down the road. If anything gamers need to throw full support behind developers such as Treyarch and Infinity Ward. It is almost like showing partiality to your father but not your mother, even though both parent does everything they can to give you the world and make you happy. It really is not fair to either company.
Fanboys really need to separate the two games and companies and let them both stand on their own legs. Just be happy that we have two companies doing this year after year. To this day I still read that people will not give Call of Duty: World at War the time of day because they feel it is a ripoff of Call of Duty 4 (this includes one of my staff members). You are basically just alienating yourself from a kick-ass WWII game because it is “not” Call of Duty 4. Treyarch is also putting a hell of a lot of support into the game. We have had one map pack released and one new map pack on the way. I also expect to see more map packs released in the future. If you think about it, the Zombie mode has endless map pack possibilities. The support is obviously there from most fans. Every time I look on my friends list it seems many are still playing Call of Duty: World at War online or zombie mode.
So now we have Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 set to release in a few months and we also have Call of Duty 7 in the works from Treyarch. Rumor has it that Treyarch is looking into a Vietnam setting this time around. The bashing has already starting. And to make matters worse I am starting to see Infinity Ward bashing as well. Are we as gamers so damned spoiled now that we see a 15 second clip on TV for Modern Warfare 2 and we start to say that the game is not up to par with the original? Just look around at the various gaming news websites and you will see headlines like “Modern Warfare 2 graphics look bad” or “Vehicles in Modern Warfare 2 ruins COD experience”. It is becoming a joke. A 15 second clip and people are already bashing Infinity Ward for being lazy or not putting enough into the game. Everybody is a critic now with their blogs and comments.
Just let the game be released for Christ sake and have a good time. Hold your judgment until E3 when Infinity Ward shows the game in full form and proves all of the crabby so-called gaming critics wrong. And stop bashing Treyarch for a new Call of Duty game that is just in its early development stages. Enough is enough people. I am just happy that I have every November to look forward to a new Call of Duty game. I can live with that for the next 20 years it that is Activisions game plan. Gamers need to just sit back and enjoy the games and lay off the negative blogs and forums.
I am sure you all have your own take on this. Feel free to comment below or in our forums. I am sure many disagree with me but that is what makes us all so different and unique. Nobody has the same views but these are mine and I will respect everybodies view as well (so don’t worry about me deleting your comments, i don’t believe in censorship unless its spam city).

COD World at War is a very good game. Zombie mode is the shit! New maps rock too. Cola perks are awesome. People need to just get a grip and stop being assholes. some people at n4g.com are already bashing Modern Warfare 2 from that commercial saying it looks like shit. I think it looks awesome. Give me a snow mobile! Gamers are so fucking spoiled these days. Bunch of whiny babies.
Great article. You’ve got some valid points. It seems like people are always ready to jump in the next bandwagon. I think a lot of the negative sentiment is because Treyarch didn’t continue with the popular Modern Warfare storyline. But people have to remember that World at War was in development long before Modern Warfare was even released…
That’s really dumb!! The reason why people don’t like these WWII games anymore is because 1: there are too many 2: the weapons it is a shooter after all right? 11 million copies sold that’s gotta say something right?
I think W@W is shit. Not THE shit, but shit. It feel to me that they tried to make a game as great and WELL MADE as COD4 and failed badly. Have you played the campaign on Vetran? RANDOM FUCKING GRENADES FALL FROM THE SKY AND LAND BY YOU EVERY FUCKING 2 SECONDS!!! And the guns suck comared to COD4’s. Yeah they are from WW2 which is probably why (more realistic) but when i shoot someone i want to actually feel like im doing damage. Most of my Hatred for it comes from the gameplay and the way the game feels when you play it. It just feels sloppy. And i def dont think that they made the COD4 engine their own. They took it and fucked itt up by trying to add on so much stuff that it doesnt work IMO. Tanks are too powerful, good long range shooting doesnt work most the time, the guns feel like toys, thy have addons that do the same thing but named differently (this is just a personal thing that ticks me off), snipers suck balls, and many other things that i feel are wrong with the game. I mean if you honesty played the hell out of Cod4 like me and my friends did, then play W@W, you’ll notice the downgrade in quality of the game. W/e though, most people will prolly say im just a hater or a fanboy or something but hey… thats how i feel.
Also i hate when ppl call W@W COD5, where the FUCK do you see a “5″ anywhere on the box?!?!?!?! And modern warfare 2 isnt COD6! Hell it wasnt even a “Call of Duty” for a while but im starting to see that people are calling it that now. This just really gets under my skin. Sorry, just had to get that off my chect.
totally agree with jordankid. He pretty much said what i wanted to say.
LOL, no problem JordanKid. And I respect your points and opinions. Not everybody likes the game. For me I just really like the feel of the game because I am a huge WW2 shooter fan. i especially like the single player mode and zombie mode. For me, Zombie mode is totally original and something Treyarch can call their own. I would totally take that ball and run with it if I were Treyarch. Hell, just make a game based around that. Imagine how kick-ass that would be. A Call of Duty dead series or something like that. But that’s just the gore lover in me wishing for something that will never happen.
While I really like World at War a ton, That does not mean I think the game is perfect. There have been times when I wanted to pull out the game disc and break it into pieces.
The game does give you frustration. For one I wish they would make dedicated servers. That includes both Infinity Ward and Treyarch. I dread getting on a multiplayer match and try to shoot some guy that acts like he is bulletproof. Yet one bullet and I am dead. You always know who is hosting, its the asshole that is 30-2 and you can fill him with lead and he still stands. These are the guys that takes you out with 1 bullet from his hand gun. It makes you want to throw the controller through your TV screen…
My friend in Baltimore also has a huge gripe about the tanks. For me I don’t mind them. If someone just uses them for kills then I either hop into one of my own and blow the shit out of them or I make a class that has sticky grenades and a bazooka.
But I also find this problem in Call of Duty 4 as well. The lag online can be unbearable at times and it just really screws the experience.
For me, I separate the two games and keep it that way. While COD WAW uses the COD4 engine, I look at it as an extension on Call of Duty 3. And I am one of the few out there that really enjoys Call of Duty 3.
I also have met members from Treyarch as well as Infinity Ward at the past few E3 shows, so I can’t really bash guys because honestly they try their best. Some people will like it and some people won’t. Infinity Ward is a better developer, but I think people tend to compare the two companies way too much and it is not really fair.
And also about Quantum of Solace. I personally like the game. The graphics are horrible, but for some reason I like how it plays online (mostly because of the COD4 engine). I also like how you can choose your perks for the guns. And we all know about the shotgun. But you take the good with the bad and just enjoy the game.
I’m tired of FPS WW2 video games. I felt betrayed coming off of modern warfare when I learned the next Call of Duty would be once again about WW2. We have emotionally moved into modern times with the franchise and now we got Treyarch bringing us back to an era that we don’t want to be in. The other stuff such as complaining about graphics, the controls, etc is all irelevant. To put what happened is simple terms: We put the developers who made the Call of Duty games on a pedistal we ourselves couldn’t reach; and when they failed to live up to our emotional expectations, we felt betrayed. It’s not fair, but there it is.
honestly this is the first article i’ve actually read start to finish because it wasn’t boring so good job! Seriously though people really do need to stop bashing and by people i mean gamers. I know everyones pissed that treyarch made yet another ww2 game but if you stop and think about it this is THE best ww2 game out there. I would also go so far as to say one of the best fps’ out there as well. I say this because of what they do with there game this time around. I honestly felt like i was really in a war because you had to constently keep looking everywhere to find enemies. Unlike the previous cod games this one had you looking in trees and in the grass instead of just straight in front of you. I personally loved the guerilla warfare that they put in the game it truly captured ww2. Treyarch also captured how war really is and by that i mean how gritty and bloody it really is and they did that by the gore factor. I mean come on limbs flying off thats realism for you. Correct me if im wrong but i believe infinity ward is actually copying treyarch in that regard too. I believe they are also doing limb damage this time around. So if you want to get down to it both companies are “stealing” ideas from one another. But honestly its not that big of a deal why fix what isn’t broken?? Whats wrong with two companies who are making the same serious of a game using the same engine and multiplayer settings?? I don’t see anything wrong with it. I’ve played both and i like cod waw better just like the author of this article for some reason it just seems better to me. That could be because i jumped on the cod4 wagon too late or because of just how gritty and realistic codwaw is. I think that from now on activisions going to have it where infinity ward develops the modern warefare while treyarch develops everything else. I say this because infinity ward has made it clear that they would like to take the modern warfare series somewhere. oh and nazi zombies kicks major ass im sorry if people dont’ like that mode but its a blast…just pure fun.
on a side note….they seriously need to fix martydom…its not spelled right i know…but i figure if they make it to where it only works if you don’t throw your one and only grenade martydom wouldn’t be so bad i think its rather unfair when someone throws there grenade at the beginning of the match and then when they die they drop another grenade…its like having the primary grenade x2 perk on yet you don’t have that perk on…..just my opinion….
Excellent comment/read there Val… And I agree, zombie mode kicks major ass. Nothing like shooting Nazi zombies and drinking some perk cola. I am really looking forward to the next Zombie map. Looks like we will have flaming hounds of hell… pretty cool if you as me.
Here is another thing… Treyarch could just make one really plain and shitty zombie map and say to the fans “here ya go, that is all you get” but they keep adding to the whole zombie concept with the perk cola and the electricity activations. Also splitting the group up into two’s and making you think about how you are going to fight the zombies and get to the electric room. The perk cola tunes rock as well… I think my friends play Zombie mode more than anything right now. It is a very addicting game.
Ive got both games.
Hours played on cod 4 – 10Days+
Hours played on cod waw – 5Days
The campaign is dissappointing, especially the level where it feels like theyve stolen the great scene from Enemy at the Gates and thats what sums up Treyarch for me, they havent made a bad game but theyve used other peoples things e.g. Game Engine, Scenes from movie.
Ive not even tried to finish veteran on waw because of the Grenades whereas on cod 4 i completed that and did the mile high club on veteran.
The Zombie mode is good but it does get a bit boring afer awhile although the new map pack will help it a bit.
The major frustration towards TREYARCH’s latest release is their decision to copy INFINITY WARD’S “money making blue print” (by ACTIVISION’s orders), and not delivering any of their own creative innovation (apart from dogs, mortars & zombies) or building from “their own” classic release of CALL OF DUTY 3.
To those like myself that have followed the franchise since CALL OF DUTY (the original) at a hardcore & competitive level, we have seen and enjoyed the progress in the franchise until the release of CALL OF DUTY:MODERN WARFARE.
INFINITY WARD’s CALL OF DUTY 2 was and still is the “definitive” release for the series. It was one of the XBOX 360’s launch titles and set the “innovative benchmark” for all the following releases to date. The official CALL OF DUTY fan base was also built on its release.
TREYARCH’s CALL OF DUTY 3 left the franchise’s “global” community impressed, while also dividing it, with its delivery of vehicles, bigger maps and more players online,. All these were supported superbly by TREYARCH’s ingenious “netcoding” which allowed all Nations to play or “compete” side by side without suffering latency issues that were plaguing the past.
Finally, taking nothing away from MODERN WARFARE’s “record breaking” development and innovation to the series it unfortunately sacrificed its hardcore fan base to “cash in” on the casual gamer market, a trend that major developers are starting to turning to.
The global expectation for TREYARCH’s WORLD AT WAR was to expand on its own past creation of the “classic” CALL OF DUTY 3, but that was evidently not the case.
Wherever ACTIVISION decides to take the series, one thing can be certain….
for better or worse, with or without TREYARCH, the CALL OF DUTY spirit is buried.
LEST WE FORGET
well theve proven that given enough time they can create a good game.
CODW@W showed that and so did quantum of solace, but than one could argue that all they did with CODW@W is copy and paste from MF.
they did a little tweaking and added new lvls but thats it, o and the zombie mode but realy who cares about that.
so its half half but if any one deserves bashing about poor quality games its EA.
theres realy only 3 titles of theres ive played (out of the hundreds) that were worth there $, that were good titles.
1 battle field bad company.
2 dead space.
3 mirrors edge.
all the otheres were bug ridden pieces of crap, like mercenaries 2 dont get me started on that.
seriously they delayed the game by almost 1 whole year and it still was crap, even 1 year after release with 101 patches its STILL buggy as hell.
army of two for another example another game that was delayed a fair bit, but still had alot of bugs like enemies dissapering, enemies walking through solid objects, in the training mission it tells you to press a certain button to do this but its the wrong button.
like press R1 to reload when its L1 (cant remember what it was but thats the idea) there trying to teach you how to play the game when they cant even get it right.
ok so now its student teaching teacher is it ok guess im getting paid to go to tafe then whens my first paycheck?
@REAL GAME “Finally, taking nothing away from MODERN WARFARE’s “record breaking” development and innovation to the series it unfortunately sacrificed its hardcore fan base to “cash in” on the casual gamer market, a trend that major developers are starting to turning to.”
That comment makes no sense and is more than a little retarded. Record breaking development and innovation turns off a hardcore gamer??? Are you saying this simply because it left the World War era?
IMO – I wanted out of the World War era so I applauded that and was disappointed to return for W@W – should have done Vietnam for this version. That aside, W@W multi-player has been ridiculously bug ridden and their caving to the loudest whiners in the forums is a joke. I only play the hardcore modes and saw no problems having tanks in there – whiners whine – no more tanks. I also saw no problem with spawn toobing in S&D because it was typically easy to avoid – now there are pocket toobers everywhere which is worse. On the bug side, every time they fixed a glitch new ones emerged. Re-spawning was a joke. It has been addressed and isn’t as bad as it was. In other news, I didn’t connect with the single player campaign as much as I did in MW, but it is still good. Zombies is tedious and boring to me but I know lots of peeps love it.
I understand that what constitutes a “successful” console game these days is increasingly difficult to nail down. Also, more features and functionality means more bugs…but they will be critiqued for failing to deliver what they promise. Have I gotten $60 worth out of W@W though? Hell yes. No question.
I eagerly await MW2 and I am hopeful for what Treyarch can do in the Vietnam era.
@Sean Foster
Sorry if it sounded like a rank like i completely hate the game (even though i did kind of say that in the begining lol). Thats not what i really meant. W@W IS a good game. Nazi Zombie is an amazing idea, they made the WWII somewhat fresh, LOVE the gore, fire could use tweaking but fantastic idea, and the tanks are fun to use. But when it comes down to actually playing on a pro/sub-pro level, the quality just isnt good enough. Do i think the game is fun, yes. Do i think its great or the same quality as COD4, no. And that honestly doesnt make it a bad game, it makes it a different one. Sure people who pwned at COD4 can pick up W@W and rape other guys but its something about what Treyarch did with the game that makes it different. I think it was HHG that said that COD4 has spoiled gamers and i think he’s 110% right! The things that Treyarch did to the engine are great, they implemented great features and added amazing modes that make it unique. But its that change they did that makes it not a good as COD4 as far as quality. To me its like what IG did with Resistance 2. I HATE the online for R2, even though it IS great. To me i just feel like R:FOM online was perfect and that they should have tweaked/updated it instead of changing it altogether. Now it doesnt feel anything like the Resistance that i was king at. If you havent noticed by now, im a hardcore shooter fan (along with my friends) so when we heard all the great things that Treyarch was doing for W@W, we though that it would be the same quality as COD4 but better because of what they added. But instead diehard shooters around the world got a game that substituted quality for…fun. And there is NOTHING wrong with that. It was just unsuspected to many MANY gamers.
I shouldnt have said that i “hate” W@W cause honestly i don’t. I just hate that the quality wasnt as good. Everything else in the game was good (except vetran campaign) just not what i wanted/exspected from the “WWII child of Modern Warefare”.
Also I’m in no way saying that COD4 was perfect. There were things in the game that i didnt like (troughing grenades across the board at the begining of the match was always cheap kills to me) but im not talking about “gameplay” im talking about quality. When you shot a gun it felt like you were killing people. When you snuck around with a silenced SMG, if felt like you were the SHIT. In W@W i just don’t get that feeling. I’m still gonna by the next Treyarch game for sure cause they do make great games, i just won’t look forward for it to be hardcore and instead more leisure fun shooter that i pwn ppl at.
Also im not sure if i said this or not already but i loved the WWII aspect of W@W. That has nothing to do with why i dont like it was much. 2 of my favorite shooters were WWII themed and it never bothered me before. Big Red One for ps2, and Resistance: Fall of Man for ps3 (kind of WWII lol). Just wanted to add that.
Nah, its all good Jordankid93. Everybody has their own opinion and we value that on here. Speak your mind freely bro… That is what makes us all gamers. Everybody has different taste in games.
I get extremely frustrated as well at times with the game. I think that is why I play zombie mode 80% of the time now. My main gripe is lack of dedicated servers. To this day COD4 and World at War are plagued with the problem of coming into a game where someone has a crap connection and everybody else suffers…
@ REALGAME -
Are you serious kid? Tryarch makes the game different with COD3 and gets shit on…. Everyone screaming about how great COD4 is – are you really suggesting Tryarch had made WAW different than COD4 that you would be anyh appier? No. You’d be sitting here bitching that Tryarch took the perfectly good game that is COD4 and changed it all and screwed it up.
You are the exact example of what this author is pointing out is WRONG in the gaming world. You are the hypocritical, self-serving, disrespectful asshole that everyone hates but nobody talks about. You think you have some reason to have your voice heard, but all you do is say stupid and senseless things.
WAW being like COD4 is a GOOD thing. If it aint broke, dont fix it. Ever heard that saying? They took everything that was right about COD4 and kept it – they took everything that was wrong (like Perk balancing) and fixed it. They took everything that was missing from COD4 (like vehicles, new Perks, new kill streaks, co-op) and ADDED it. What the hell did they do so wrong to you?
I hate you.
@Me
Your right. Why fix what is not broken. I am also sure Activision had a hand in telling Treyarch to use the COD4 engine. I really wish they would have expanded on the COD3 engine. Treyarch made that engine in under a year and it is pretty damn good if you ask me.
Point is, Treyarch made WAW with the COD4 engine and people still bitch about it. Bottom line is they just can’t win.
And just like this article points out people are already complaining about Modern Warfare 2 and how it looks. These people are such crybabies these days. And they just shut the fuck up and play the game.
treyarch is good at one thang taking everyone elses idea and making it their own.. the COD4 engine the horde mode.. and then they jack up the maps from the engine and the spawns… WAW will never be as good as modern warfare and MW2 will blow the doors off of everythang… WWII games are so played out and its time to move on… after the 5 COD games the 15 medal of honor games… the only thang treyarch did right on this game is the more custom slots, the leader boards, and the online stat tracking…
It seems that you are a Treyarch fanboy, no offense. I have to disagree with you on some points however.
While its true we have had one DLC to date and another soon to be released, the game is still nearly unplayable for many people (mostly PS3 owners). We have had a few TU since release and IMO each one has either brought up a new issue or made existing issues worse. Spawning is horrible, matchmaking is horrible, finding a game is almost impossible, and then there is the insane P2P servers.
It is nearly impossible to find a game (unless playing solo) in the original match list. If you have a party, your best option is to play Team Objective under the Map Pack menu. If you search for a specific game ie Headquaters, you cannot search for more than a few seconds before your party gets disbanded. You must search, back out, search, back out several times in order to join a game.
Ive been playing alot of COD4 as of late and have a very enjoyable time. Now, some of these issues are present on MW, mainly lag, but my party and I can join any game we wish at any time we wish without issues. Spawning in COD4 isnt perfect, but I’d give it 8/10 compared with 3/10 I give WaW.
I realize that some of these issues may be related to PSN and may only be present on the PS3 console, but that’s all I can base my opinion on. I am in no way a fanboy of either company, Im simply a gamer who knows what works and what doesnt.
Enough is enough! I’ve had with these mothafucking fans, on this muthafucking bashing!!!
I should be the new Samuel L Jackson. Thank you, thank you.
Anyways, I have to see there was many valid points made that even showed me up. Oh, and hanks for mentioning me in context; (even one of my staff memeber)
treyarch biting infinity ward’s shit is getting old. they dont make anything truely new at all.
I am so excited for the COD take on Vietnam war!
I have been begging for Vietnam and Korean war!!!!!!!
WOOHOOO!
I think the glitch patching should stop?We pay $60.00 a game we should be able to have fun with it and play the way we would like too!!!!Tyrech makes so much money on people reporting a glitch to patch just leave the gaming alone and let us enjoy what we payed for!!!I think more people should step up to the plate and vote toward banning the patching!!Thanks
Treyarch should let us decide if we want our game patched or not and let us select yes or no instead of giving us these updates that automatically patch our $60.00 we spent for the game from them!!!!
I enjoyed both Modern Warfare and World at War but the horrible veteran level on W.A.W. really spoiled the overall experience for me. The difficulty level even on “hardened” was just too easy so to find the veteran level virtually unplayable due to the grenade issue was incredibly frustrating and disappointing. If Treyarch are to make future Call Of Duty games, I really hope they take on board that upping the difficulty level by increasing the grenade count is just not acceptable. By all means give us harder enemies, more to kill (though not continuous spawning), less ammo etc but not the “lazy” route taken with W.A.W.
I think i can relate to jordankid93 but, I feel I can say it like an adult.
I like World at War but, it doesn’t feel as ….fluid as COD4 does. I still have tons of fun with it because its a good game. It introduced some cool perks, a flamethrower thats not really useful but entertaining, and Nazi Zombie mode which is flippin awesome by itself.
Again, there is just something about they way it feels. When I play COD4 and see the enemy running, it looks realistic. Every movement looks fluid, smooth, and natural. Now with WaW, it looks like stick figures are running. The models look rigid and almost like they are breaking with every movement. The gameplay feels a bit rigid also.
Regardless, ITS STILL A GOOD GAME, it just feels different from COD4. I agree that we do need to back developers no matter who they are. Unless you can go and make a COD game that is even near the quality of WaW, (which a majority of you cannot so don’t waste your breath saying you can), shut the hell up. Be appreciative that someone out there is trying for you.
-Nitro Cho–
I think treyarch should develop a full zombi game just like the mappacks but differant levels and stages with achievments that would be awsome!!!After all the zombie mode part of the game is the best part of the call of duty world at war!!!!But like i said produce a full zombie game with massive levels and achievments!!!!
I also think people shouldn’t call World at War a “shitty game”. Sure it’s not as “revolutionary” as Call of Duty 4 was, but it’s still a good game. Personally, since I’ve played Call of Duty 2 (my first CoD experience) and I’ve watched Letter from Iwo Jima/Flags of our Fathers of Clint Eastwood, I was hoping for a Call of Duty based on the pacific. But when Modern Warfare was announced, well, I was exited to see a completely new context, but I’ve also lost the hope to see a CoD set on the Pacific. Then, when I heard rumours from Kotaku that Treyarch was developping a CoD with the Pacific setting, it filled me with hope again. Eventually, I found that WaW didn’t completely satisfy me, they said that WaW would be a never-seen-before WWII game, faster, fresher… but I was seeking for a classic WWII game with the ambiance of the first CoD or films like Saving Private Ryan.
Now for the game itself, I found that using IW’s engine made them “copy” about 60% of CoD 4… I mean, the multiplayer was nearly the one of Call of Duty 4 with a WWII skin. What I didn’t like was some attachments and class customizations from Call of Duty 4 that didn’t fit with the WWII setting: we were in a WWII battlefield with germans with japanese SMG with a piece of lense on it, some Russians running around with suppressed M1 Garand… That was absurd. I would have prefered a whole new multiplayer system made by Treyarch that fits with the WWII setting, rather than a transposition of the “succesful” Call of Duty 4 multiplayer. But actually, I think Activision is the one to blame. They seem to have been pretty involved in the developing of the game itself, and I wonder if they didn’t imposed the way of creating it rather than letting them make it freely…
Anyway for the next Call of Duty, I think Treyarch should use and work on their own engine from Call of Duty 3. It would make more originality to their work. I personnaly liked the CoD 3 engine, it gave more “volume” to the character. Graphically, Infinity Ward has always done neat works but the characters were also too “small”. That was especially for Call of Duty 2, now it’s better but the characters looked more like WWII moving figurines than real character. For me, Call of Duty 3 did better in that way but there was also a problem in it: the torso was too large. Sorry for the novel, hope that it won’t be too large when submitting.
Call Of Duty are both IW and Treyarch so arent they allowed to steal ideas :P
Praise The Lord
to much lag i was reset from prestige 4 back to 1 for no reoson and no i dont cheat treyarch said problem fixed and you have to prestige to get your prestige back did that happen NO they said after i will never get it back and when i play hardcore with my sniper perks it can take 2 or more hits to kill none of these problems happened on cod 4 and why do people camp allot on this game and i hate team killers but when it happens and not your thought it should be realised example sometimes a player has no name what can you i agree with jordan how can i like this game
I love both games. Infinity Ward made one helluva game. CoD4 had a revolutionary control system and had the balls to step away from WW2 and get closer to the present. The story was amazing. I loved the helicopter crash wher the American soldier dies (but not for that reason). Unfortunately, I never played the multiplayer, so I don’t know what its system is like.
But I did play WaW’s multiplayer. I’ll admit, I hate how they patched all of the good glitches and Makin Day was a waste of time (although thank God they virtually eliminated going under the ground–I hated that) and it kinda sucks that Treyarch forces you to download updates (I don’t know if it’s the same for MW). But they tried their best to make the game more like real war–you know, body parts flying, language, blood, etc.
Personally, I can’t wait for MW2 and CoD7.
Both Infinity Ward and Treyarch make great games. Whatever games they make, i’ll stand behind them. As long as they’re war games. :)

Honestly, I will be fine with Treyarch as soon as they stop reskinning the CoD 2/CoD 4 engine and do some actual work themselves. Just please stop using Infinity Ward assets. If they reskin the MW2 engine for CoD 7, I will never touch a Treyarch game again.
Very much agreed. Games are about having fun, not complaints and negativity. Each company deserves respect as they have both put good work into their games.
…However I have to say Infinity Ward has been a little more original. xD
People bashed and bashed and continue to bash that poor game. I feel like it’s much more well balanced and intricate and realistic than COD4 could ever be.
From the characters chants and talking on the field. Like, “Oh my God, Get it off!” if someone throws a sticky granade on you. To, “SH** GRANADE!” if a frag lands near you. Or if the other team calls in recon you’ll hear, “Keep an eye out! They know our location!” to as little as, “Placing Betty” or “Laying a trap.” and even, “That’ll show ya!”
That alone helps put you further into the game and more exciting experience then some dude saying 2 two times “Planting Claymore!” or three times “Tossing Stun Granade”. When it comes to gameplay and moving around the map Treyarch made REALISTIC maps with fighting in smaller city streets… You don’t ever really ask yourself… Hey, why’d they put a fence here? Why can’t I go over there? and therefore there really aren’t that many glitches outside of maps.
ALL the guns really feel different moving around the map. The BAR feels different than the Type 99, although they are in the same category of weapons.
Lastly, Activision made them do it! Don’t blame them, they had to make a WWII game! Cause all the WWII lovers would be like… Where’s my COD? Most games have a two year (or more) major release life cycle. So think of it as a different game, and if you don’t want to buy it, that’s on you, just play the old COD. Look at Gears1,2… Look at KillZone 1,2… Look at Resistance 1,2.
If you’re a fan of one, just think of the other as something to do while you wait for the next great one. I’m always excited about a new Call of Duty. But honestly, Modern Warfare 2 is going on the shelf when MAG comes out in January. Just like RB2 is going on the shelf when GH5 comes out in September.
I agree completely, People hate Treyarch so much that they constantly cry and complain about every single flaw in the game. One of my friends hates the game and Treyarch because they keep patching out glitches yet he plays it every single day. It’s funny to see people who constantly bash Treyarch yet play the game and buy the map packs. People don’t like it because it doesn’t have the Modern Warfare “feel” but if it did people would complain about how it was a rip-off. I love Treyarch, they’re a great company and I love almost all their games yet when they make a CoD game, everyone gets mad. Is everyone just spoiled? Is everyone a bunch of babies? It seems so. I’m sure if Treyarch made another CoD Game but Infinity Ward took credit and put their logo on the box, everyone would love it. Now I’m not bashing Modern Warfare or Infinity Ward but at least give Treyarch a compliment because they tried their best and if wasn’t good enough for you then you’re just showing the world how spoiled you are.
1. WaW has good maps, big, spacious, also, all the downloadable maps are pretty fucking sweet..as for cod4?!well… they were shit, fucking waste of money! sure the multiplayer was more balanced than WaW(because of the mp40 ;p) but other that that WaW is far better for downloads, ahhh wait, another thing is, there is almost 4 mps! what about cod4? 1 mp… 1 shitty mp that was a pile of shit :] ok, creek was alright but you hardly played one of the maps.. it was terrible, i own cod4, i gave it my mate, i am sick of it, don’t get me wrong though, cod4 was alright but i ain’t being hyped up about mw2, i think the multiplayer will be a stressy one..but maybe they have done great with the balance again, story for mw sucked though but i don’t know many mixed feelings about the game, either way, i am sticking with WaW for quite a while, so you little whiners go suck mw cock while i sit and play a decent game..
2. ermm well everything was said in 1.. literally everything, don’t mock treyarch, they’re doing much more than the mw.
treyarch very much deserves to be bashed for several reasons. yes, nazi zombies was an excellent idea, but they have done a HORRIBLE job on delivering this idea. if they could just make some dedicated servers instead of forcing people to host from their own routers (which they have to basically open up to the whole world in order to get anyone to join). the process of finding the right ports, enable DMZ and whatever else is enough of a pain as it is, then you have to close it back up after the match is over to avoid any unwanted intrusions into your network. again: nazi zombies, great idea, treyarch = failure to correctly deliver that idea.
oh and if someone is running a mod for nazi zombies, you can forget it, its not a simple auto-download when you join the room, you’d have to track down the exact name of the mod, put it into the correct directory, RESTART the game, ENABLE the mod in the mod section, then search for servers again and hope the lobby is still there. now that is a fucking failure system. treyarch FAILS and they should allow SOME other developer to take the IP rights to nazi zombies so that they can actually deliver this feature correctly by making dedicated servers.
note: all of the above applies only to the PC version, i can’t speak for console.
