Gaming Console Network breaks out our own personal top 10 Xbox 360 exclusive titles for those who just purchased a Xbox 360 gaming system.
As a older gamer now going on 25+ game-playing years in this crazy gaming community it seems that everybody has an opinion these days on what is good and what is total dog crap when it comes to games. This time around I am going to throw out what I feel are real, honest to god kick-ass games that should be in your Xbox 360 owners library. Many of you may not agree with this list of what my “top 10 Xbox 360 exclusive must-have games” are but that is fine. That is why we are gamers, everybody has different taste and gaming needs.
I have read these lists all over the internet, some are absolutely pathetic and absurd. For the record I do own a Xbox 360. I have been a faithful owner since launch date in the US. Some idiots out there even have the nerve to write a top list yet they do not own a Xbox 360 system. How can you judge a system if you don’t bloody well own the damn thing in the first place?
I also own a PS3 and a Nintendo Wii since launch date as well. So if you think I am trying to pull the wool over someones eyes and trying to preach some form of bloody fanboy nonsense then you need to just not even bother reading. I am a fanboy for gaming itself and video games in general and I will follow up this list with a top 10 Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii list. One thing I did find is that there was not much to choose from in terms of “exclusives” and Microsoft 1st party titles. The Playstation 3 actually has more exclusives (Killzone 2, Resistance, etc) . This is crazy but very much true and it is one of Microsofts weak spots. I hope Microsoft nips this in the bud come E3 2009.
If you just purchased a Xbox 360 you are in for some kick-ass games that might have passed you by. Here’s a list for the ten best Xbox 360 Exclusive games that we think you might want to consider picking up now. I am not including Xbox Live/XBLA titles or DLC (such as the GTA4 and Fallout 3 exclusive DLC) because what is the use? And we all know which multiplatform games rock (Bioshock, COD4, COD5, Fallout 3, GTA 4, Fight Night Round 3, etc)
These are listed in no particular order.
10. Halo 3
With a great online community thanks to Bungie and one of the best-feeling shooters around, Halo 3 is in my opinion one of the first buys if you just bought a Xbox 360 system. Tons of great maps to buy, Forge kicks ass, sweet online play and some great single player/co-op.
Another plus is there are also a ton of hot chicks that plays this game (sorry, female gamers kick ass in my book). Nothing like getting fragged by a pink Spartan over and over again.
The game clock in at around $40 new or you can find it used for around $30-35.
Halo 3 is a must-have for the Xbox 360!
9. Gears of War
I remember seeing this game at E3 many years ago and almost crapping my pants. Gears of War blew the door off and gained new gamers with this title. Being able to use a gun with a chainsaw attached to it was unheard of. And to think the suits at Microsoft wanted to get rid of it. Thank god they didn’t.
Marcus and the gang gives you some of the best 3rd person shooting fun on this side of town. Amazing graphics and a pretty damn good storyline makes this game a must-have in your Xbox 360 collection.
You can find the original Gears of War as well the 2 Disc edition for around $30 new. You might also be able to find the used Special Edition tin case around. They range from $30-50 depending on where you show for used games.
Another must-have Xbox 360 game!
8. Gears of War 2
You know this one was coming. The follow-up to the original Gears of War takes things to a whole new level. Marcus Fenix and the Delta Squad are back kicking ass and taking names. Gears of War 2 features an awesome single player story that builds upon the original Gears of War. It also features a great co-op mode, expanded online gameplay and the new Horde mode that will keep you and your friends busy for hours. The games graphics are also some of the best on the Xbox 360.
Once again the DLC is there for the picking as well, with a few very good map packs that will keep you and your friends busy for a while. You can also relive the older Gears of War maps with a new look.
You can find this game new for $60 or used for around $45-50 depending on where you shop. I have a Game Zone down here in Florida that sells them used for around $45.
7. Dead Rising
This is one of the games that really started it all for me. You play as a photographer named Frank looking for answers on why the dead have come back and are feasting on the living. If you are a huge fan of the great George a. Romer Dead series then this game is a total must for you. Just think of being able to play a video game version of Romero’s Dawn of the Dead. Dead Rising has all the great bells and whistles a game needs, like being able to use tons of weapons (lawnmowers, chainsaws, guitars, toy swords, teddy bears, etc) and dressing up in various clothes and items.
You can find this game for around $20 new. Used it will cost you about $15 but you might be able to score the original box art (instead of the platinum box). Dead Rising 2 will be multiplatform, but the Xbox 360 is the only place in town for the original (i do not count the Wii version even close to this version).
6. Crackdown
I don’t know what it is about this game but somethign about a GTA clone with very weird cell-shaded graphics and a sandbox world always turns out to be fun as hell. Pacific City is at your fingertips as you can gain experience and new powers. How many games outside of “the Hulk” can you pick up a car and throw it at someone? Crackdown is one of the first Xbox 360 games and it may seem a bit dated but it still is a great game to have in your Xbox 360 library.
This was a tough one because Crackdown goes at the very bottom of my top ten list. Honestly this would be where I would have put Bioshock. But now that Bioshock is on the PS3 for almost a year now that pretty much shot my plans to hell. Condemned also came close because I am a huge horror fan. But the last slot goes to Crackdown.
The game also is cheap as hell now. You can find it used anywhere from $10-15 at your local game store in the used games section.
5. Fable 2
If you owned the original Xbox, you should know about a little game by the name of Fable. It took Xbox 360 owners a few years but we finally were treated to Fable 2. Play online or offline, create and mold your character to be good or evil. Everything is pretty much at the tip of your fingers in Fable 2, right down to having safe-sex with your mate. I honestly feel like I am playing a twisted Disney movie when I play Fable 2.
Another great thing about Fable 2 is the DLC support. Right now there are many additional add-ons that you can purchase on the Xbox Live store. And there are more great things to come in terms of Fable 2 DLC.
Fable 2 recently had a price drop. So now you can pick the game up for $40 new or around $35 used. You may still be able to find the Special Edition out there as well.
4. Call of Duty 2
That is right folks, I am throwing in my “Call of Duty” card here. Call of Duty 2 only came out on the PC and Xbox 360 when the game system hit stores in the US. Sure we had “Big Red One” on the PS2 and GameCube, but this was the real deal with great graphics and awesome gameplay. Infinity Ward made what at the time was a must-have WWI shooter. A lot has changed since then but if you go back and play Call of Duty 2 you will see some little details that actually made it into Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Call of Duty 2 still has some very good online gameplay as well as a stellar single player storyline.
You can still manage to find this game at Best Buy for around $20 new. You can also find it used from $10-15. If you find this game be sure to pick it up. It may seem dated compared to the newer Call of Duty games but it is still a great title to have and one that will fill that Call of Duty set nicely on your gaming shelf.
3. Left 4 Dead
What can be said about Left 4 Dead other then the fact that it kicks serious ass. Play with three others as you fight a horde of the undead in streets, airports and apartment complexes. Developer Valve also continues to add little tweaks to the game with new game modes and patches. If you love zombies and gore as much as I do then you should already own this game.
Left 4 Dead was released on the XBox 360 and PC. While we keep hearing rumors about a PS3 port, the fact remains that right now the only way for console junkies to play this is on the Xbox 360. Left 4 Dead clocks in at $50 new and around $40-45 used.
2. Prey
OK, this is a personal favorite and I am sure most of you are saying “what the hell is Prey”? I bought the special edition game when it was released for the Xbox 360 back in the day. I still go back from time to time and play because it is one fun-ass game. I also really dig the storyline. You play as Tommy, a Indian trying to get the hell out of his town/tribe to make a life for himself. Only aliens come to earth and create quite a stir. Your uncle and girlfriend are abducted and its up to you to be a man and start kicking some ass. The game still has some pretty cool graphics and those gravity walkways are crazy. There’s even a cool little cameo by Coast to Coast’s old host Art Bell.
You can find this game mega-cheap now. From $5-15 depending on where you shop for games. I have yet to see this game new anywhere.
1.Mass Effect
Being an owner of the original Xbox system, I was a huge fan of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic as well as Jade Empire. Bioware really knows how to make a kick-ass RPG. Mass Effect takes you on a journey across the galaxy as you make decisions and choose your characters own fate. Amazing graphics, tight gameplay and awesome voice acting topped off an adventure that took you weeks to complete. Mass Effect has a place in many Xbox 360 owners hearts. We should hear more about Mass Effect 2 soon once E3 rolls around.
The great thing about Mass Effect is that you can pick this game up new for $20. I have seen it as a platinum hit at Wal-mart but if you want the original box art you might have to dig around at stores that sell used games. The game should be around $15 used.
Honorable Mentions:
LIPS, Halo Wars (I hate RTS so thats why it is not on my list), Saints Row, Condemned: Criminal Origins, Frontlines: Fuels of War, Bully: Scholarship Edition, Ninja Gaiden II, Infinite Undiscovered, Star Ocean: The Last Hope, Perfect Dark Zero, Two Worlds (the game is $5 brand new now, it sucks ass but worth $5), Call of Juarez (I think I am the only one on this planet that likes this game), Deadliest Catch: Alaskan Storm (I guess you have to be a mega-fan like myself to put up with the mediocre graphics and choppy frame-rate)…

Good list. You are right. The PS3 does have a lot more exclusives. Killzone 2, Resistance 1 & 2, Warhawk, SOCOM, InFamous, etc.
Microsoft needs to get more in-house developers. Halo is their biggest name, and Gears follows. I love games like Dead Rising, Bioshock and games like that but they are getting multiplatform releases now. Microsoft needs to dip into RARE and break out some old shit like Killer Instinct and a better Perfect Dark. Fuck it, break out Conker while you are at it. I would love to see that horny bucktooth squirrel pissing bastard on the Xbox 360.
I still think Nintendo is the best in terms of 3rd party. I hope they show up at this years E3. If not they are fucked.
most of those are also on PC
Isn’t it a bit dishonest calling this list “XBOX 360 exclusive games” when most of the games listed are also available on PC?
Anyway, I just don’t understand the hype about ME – I got it for PC because of all the glowing reviews, but I found it incredible dull and boring. In my mind, it was as badly hyped as H3 or KZ2.
What xbox exclusives, some of these games (prey, cod2) have even been ported to linux :S
The guy that wrote this points out many times in the articles about PC. I think this is strictly for “game console exclusives” meaning Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii. You need to remember that most of us games could give two shits about PC gaming. Everybody does not own a $2000+ PC nor do they have the bread to buy one. Thats why we buy game consoles. Cheaper and in some casses just as good. Left for Dead is also on PC, as well as Gears of War. It is Microsoft so it is a given most are on PC. But in terms of the mighty PS3/Xbox 360 war this article is pretty damn accurate. None of these games are on the PS3 or the Wii. Good enough for me. And sorry but Mass Effect rocks!

That’s 67 versus 39 games that are already out (in the west). And that’s without X360 games that came out for the PC and without timed exclusives. XBLA vs PSN will make the difference even bigger.
So did I miss anything, or is simply that PS3 fanboys simply can’t count?
Gee Xbot, that’s a great job there. SNEAK KING? LMAO, seriously? You’re counting the $2 games that Burger King gave out as Xbox 360 exclusives?
Now let’s try another trick: let’s count games that only score a 70 or above on Metacritic (i.e. games that people would actually care about, not Sneak King)
Xbox 360: 19
PS3: 18
WOOO the 360 has a huge advantage wow!
And since you mentioned Xbox Live games, too, let’s just go ahead and throw in XBL and PSN games as well. Remember, I don’t give half a crap about XNA games that literally only 20 people have bought: let’s be a little more generous with indie games and include games that score a 60 or higher on Metacritic for XBL and PSN games. Adding those to the previous totals:
360: 46
PS3: 44
Great job buddy. The Xbox is obviously winning… as if.
If you’re honest and count exclusives people would actually want to play, the systems are neck and neck.
You go ahead and trust the media. I hear it all the time that it is biased towards the “Xbots”, but wake up. Last year there were 3, and I am saying 3 turned based SRPGs released on the 360 in a matter of 3 months. None of those games scored above 65% (46,59,46) on Metacritic. The main complaint was that the graphics were last gen, and there was no reason to charge such a high price if they were to use such crappy graphics. Fine. Disagea (sp?) comes out on Pee_S_3 and the a 79. All the reviews stated that the graphics were poor, but didn’t need to be anything more than they were due to the style of game. We aren’t talking one review to another, we are talking multiples.
Sorry, I hate Sony. I am from the US. I work in the IT industry. I see how many people MS employ in our country, and they come first. Yeah, Gates is rich, and they have had questionable practices, but so have Sony. Just realize Sony chose 75% of it’s layoff from with the US, when 40% of their employee base is in Japan.
LOL, I forgot about those Burger King games. Personally I love all three systems. So I am not into bashing either one. I play my Xbox 360 most though because of Xbox Live. I am also a gamer since the Atari 2600 days so I really do not understand why people in the Sony camp and people in the Xbox 360 camp get so pissed at each other.
Look at it this way, my first big Videogame War was between Nintendo and Sega. Now look at today, Sonic and Sega games are on Nintendo systems. Crazy things happen.
For me I hope Microsoft steps it up with original content at E3. Last year we got At The Movies and LIPS… We need more core games. I am sure Microsoft will unleash the flood gates at this years E3. But Sony has more games waiting to be released on the PS3… With games like MAGS, GOD3, InFamous, etc…
Either way no matter is released gamers like myself win. We have 3 game systems with their own strengths so just sit back and enjoy the ride.
Also one more thing… Val wrote this list based on just the Big Three. Not PC…
Guy, you forget this titles of ps3: Yakuza III, Demon’s Souls, White Knight Chronicles, Infamous, Yakuza Pre-Sequel. You put a lot of titles not exclusives with releases for PS2 too…
If anyone is not happy with the list – blame scwarlfx.com because I simply copy&pasted the list from there (after removing loads of console exclusives like L4D and timed exclusives like Bioshock).
I agree that we should only care about games with high Metacritic value (although I have no idea why “other guy” decided that we should only look at games with 70+, but allow PSN/XBLA games with 60+. I would go for a flat 70+ on all sorts games. Perhaps even 80+ if we really want the cream of the crop)
@Antony, read again: only games that are already released in the west are in the list. There’s another list for upcoming games with all the games you listed and others, but I’m not gonna paste it here as well.
But still, even onther the rules set by “other guy” we can see that:
67>39
46>44
19>18
So the phrase “The Playstation 3 actually has more exclusives”. Is simply wrong in all those cases. Toss in some console exclusives to the list and you’ll see that the amount of good games you can actually play on each system still leans towards the X360. It’s not a knockout obviously, but it’s “winning by points”.
guy wow cant believe you spent all that time makeing a pittiful list.
and ninja gaiden 2 isent 360 exclusive any more its comming to ps3 with exclusive content just like bioshock.
thats why i refuse to buy a 360 because 90% of its games are on PC, and the PC coppys are allways (mostly) better so why spend another $500 on a system that can play games my PC will?
@name
As I already said: I didn’t spend a minute creating this list, I simply copied it from scwarlfx. And I guess NGS2 wasn’t announced so that’s why NG2 is on the X360 list (on the other side, NGS is on the PS3 list and it’s basically an XBOX port so that’s a counter).
As for you lame “I refuse” excuse. An X360 is 300$, not 500$. That’s less then what you’ll need to pay for a graphics card capable of running GTA4 on PC reasonably. And the entire list you just read includes games you can’t really play on the PC because they’re exclusive to the console. You can just as well claim that PS3 has no exclusives because games like SF4, RE5, etc. are coming to the PC. It’s nonsense.
Love how people get so worked up about this, the best console doesn’t always get the best exclusives, the highest sales, a good example of this was the dreamcast – A beutiful console that got stomped over by Playstation and N64 even thought it had alot better graphics and decent games.
Anyway just my 2 cents
LOL. That is why I don’t own a 360. Not a damn thing I’d be willing to play on that top 10 list. The only games I would own if I were to have a 360 is Ace Combat, Dead or Alive (sister loves this game) and possibly that tenchu game from that list. Otherwise, they’re not worth the money.
Now compare that to my ps3? At least half the games I own are exclusive. gg MS?
Let’s not mind the fact that 360 has been out for a year longer than PS3 or anything. I mean, gosh, that would be fair and we couldn’t possible consider that at all…
@Jahosive
Operation Darkness, Zoids Assualt (could expect any more from a Zoids game, honestly…?), and Spectral Force 3 didn’t score poorly because of console bias; they scored low because they all have a medley of bad stories, underwhelming graphics, unrewarding gameplay, poor audio, etc. Meanwhile Disgaea 3, although quite basic graphically, at the very least offers good fan service, which said 360 exclusives struggled to accomplish, and had plenty of good gameplay to make up for the graphics.
And hating a Japanese company for protecting their Japanese employees is just self-centered egotism. If an American company did the same thing for its American employees, you’d be hooting and hollering that they did a good thing.
Quite a double standard you have going there.
Jesus!!!! Just calm down you nerds…
Ok first of all, a’lot of people are saying they wont buy an x-box 360 because most of he games are on the PC… Alrighty… Well PC and The x-box 360 are both part of Microsoft, am i correct? Maybe Microsoft makes more money to have more games put on x-box 360 and PC. Sony are nothing! There a fart noise, they are going nowhere!!!!!! There online features are real shitty, especially compared to the x-box 360, you dont get a gamerscore or achievments for games you play, which i enjoy very much on my x-box 360. The PS3’s are to expensive, maybe thats why lots of people arent buying them. The only real thing they have thats different to the X-box 360 is that they have Blu-Ray…
I could buy a blu-ray player for about $200. The PS3 games arent realy going anywhere, the only real good ones, which i would buy if i owned one are Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2, Resistance 2 and God Of War 3 which will be out soon…
You guys Are a big bunch of fucking nerds that do notheing other than play vidio game so why dont you get a fucking life and do something fun
Fuck You miss Daisy :):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)
get a life and do something that is a little more interesting other than playing games all day you doush bags
Zacka Shut the fucka up
@ Agroup of video game fags
Truth give’s some sore to eye’s , aye? Don’t shut someone’s own opinion. Could u guys try to be such a fags? I mean , come’on , It depends on one’s own interests , not a bunch of shit that YOU guys think is good. I mayhap to like some game , and u mayhap to dislike it , it doesn’t mean u have to force you’r own ideals on to someone , geez.
Either way , i’m pretty certain ALL of the upper mentioned stuff will be on either of the consoles one day
I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
All of you are messed up, $5 a game? Damn, i live in south africa, i never saw one game that cost R50, and why are you all having competition PS3 VS XBOX 360 VS PC , totally idiotic, but i vote for XBOX 360 then PC then PS3 reason being that, xbox can played copied games, the pc can 2 but hardware expensive, ps3 dislike the controller, and the console itself is ma se poes big. Anyways enjoy your competition you Fucking BlowJobs.
I hate the Halo games, you’re all just a bunch of jumping fags. Just like KillZone 2 people are a bunch of Spawn Grenade camping proximity mine throwing jack-a$$s. The real two good games on the systems are Gears 2 and R2.
You do realize that although PS3 has the least amount of sales of consoles (due mostly to cost), they have more accessories, lower failure rate, and the overall value of the system has been proven over and over and over again.
If you don’t like the Stock PS3 controller. Logitech (they make better quality stuff than most OEM equiptment) makes about 5 different versions of the PS3 controller with everything from air coolers to bigger ones for people who like them bigger to smaller more basic controllers. There’s also a company who makes them with the stick setup like XBOX controllers and that one won many awards.
Along with all kinds of neat headsets. Since SONY believes in a more open-source world of things, we have a lot more cheaper accessories to choose from. I used my cellphone’s bluetooth for my wireless headset for a few months, and I used my PC’s gaming controller as a controller too. It all just works on PS3. No M$ BS lockdown. I’m sure SONY’d be in a better place in terms of profits if they had done the lock down though.
If you think about it [as another poster said] it is actually a good method by Microsoft to have games spread across both the PC and 360. I personally am in Microsofts camp, as if one of their games cant work on my PC i will just buy it for xbox 360- I like it that way. And yes, i have played some PS3 exclusives that i would like for my console; and my mate says that regarding his PS3, that he would like some of X360 exclusives.
Im not in anyway competitive between sony and Microsoft’s exclusive- as having exclusives is an excuse for me to go and visit my mates house to play and vice versa; instead of playing with randoms online.
Thats my opinion, and i know that most of you are too busy in a conversation that has no benefit to you to probably bother and read this post.
This list is not accurate because most of the games listed are not true Xbox 360 exclusives.I own a ps3,PC and an xbox so I am not bias toward any system.
Dead Rising=Not an Xbox exclusive. It is on the Wii.
Mass Effect=Not an Xbox exclusive. It is on the PC.
Prey========Not an Xbox exclusive. It is on the PC.I own it on the pc.
Call of Duty 2=Not an Xbox exclusive. It is on the PC.
Left for Dead 1 and 2=Not an Xbox exclusive. It is on the PC also.
Get a PS3 and play Uncharted 2,Metal Gear Solid 4, and Killzone 2.
Nuff Said.
the 360s exclusive list isn’t that great, most people i know who have a 360 are playing multiplatform games on it anyways so the only good thing about getting a 360 is that their online play is better and that there are more people (at least in the US) on xbox live
there aren’t any games on this list that make me want to buy a 360 unlike MGS4, Uncharted 2, and Little Big Planet
I am not a addicted gamer, I never have been (escept on temprorary cases where i buy a game which i enjoy a lot). This being said, i have two of the three major consoles, xbox 360 and wii. No i am not biased, i have played on the PS3 over friends/relatives houses, and i do admit, some of the exclusives are amazing. In terms of online play, the xbox 360 has to win, XBL is so much better than PSN, hands down. Having to obtain ahievements in games to increase your gamerscore does get you hooked on the games also. Also, just to clarify, this article reffering to exclusive games is suppose to only apply to the Wii, 360 and PS3. It’s common sense to have 360 games on the PC seeing how their both part of Microsoft, which also aids in earing a shit-load of money. In terms of exclusives … I have to admit the PS3 has better exclusives. Uncharted 2, MGS4 and Killzone 2 are superb games. 360 has good exclusives too, but the only ones i really enjoy on the 360 are Gears 1&2 and Left 4 Dead (I have Halo, i just don’t like it to much). But going back to what a fellow member said, PS3’s only fantastic feature IMO is Blu-ray, and if you wanted a blu ray player so much you can get one at a decent price now. Besides, you can watch DVD’s on the 360 anyway. In terms of exclusives, PS3 wins. In terms of Online, 360 wins. But i do feel Microsoft needs to update the 360 now …
I heard there is a great solitaire game. My close friend told me about it, and I really think it’s the best solitaire game ever made! I got it here: Get The Solitaire Game http://www.funsolitairegame.com/
I don’t see what a lot of people are getting at by saying how good KZ2 and R2 and MGS4 are, and thats why you should buy a PS3. In my opinion, shooters, although they are good, is not a reason to buy a console, especially seeing as the Xbox 360 has many great shooters such as Halo, Gears of War and Left 4 Dead. Call of Duty has been proven to have better graphics on the 360 even (although it is very slight, the framerate is less patchy).
I would say LittleBigPlanet and Demon’s souls are why i would want a PS3, for their originality and longevity (KZ2 was incredibly overhyped and quite honestly bland and ordinary, just like many shooters). Halo and Gears of War are actually a lot more original than the simple ordinary soldier games like resistance and killzone.
And the 360 has many high quality original games. Mass Effect, Dead Rising, Crackdown, Fable II, Civilisation Revolution, Saints Row 2. All excellent. And multiplatform games are almost always slightly better running on a 360 than a PS3.
As for online play, Xbox LIve is faster, easier and much more fun to use, has a greater selection of games and other things in the marketplace, and contains more gamers than PSN. Its really a small price to pay.
