GCN’s Aaron Espinoza talks about how the new Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare hack is ruining the game.
As you many of you Call of Duty 4 PS3 gamers out there may already know, a new hack has hit and has it’s own name. The UFO hack. For those who don’t know what it is, I will explain it in the most basic terms possible. You can fly, go through walls and use it to kill people from any vantage point.
To many, this hack may very well be something that some are looking forward to using in the near future. People like myself, on the other hand, just want this patched up as soon as possible. Online Gaming is about skill and not about downloading cheap software that enables you to cheat your way through an online ranked match.
Unfortunately for myself, my PS3 suffered the dreaded, “Yellow Light of Death” so I have not been able to view the hack personally for myself, nor do I wish to be engaged in a match with some of these hacking scumbags. But even I could tell from looking at the you tube videos that these people are really desperate for attention and desperate to raise that Kill/Death ratio.
I honestly do not see what is so beneficial about hacking a game. Sure, you may get a lot of kills but where is the fun if you’re invincible? The fun in playing a game is when you’re in the heat of an intense gun battle knowing that at any moment you could be stabbed from behind or sniped from across the map. Dying in a game is what makes that game fun, believe it or not. It really lets us gamers know how to improve ourselves and allows us to learn from mistakes. Then you go on to improve your mistake and know you can get the sneaky bastard when you respawn once more.
What does a hack do? Absolutely nothing. It takes no skill to fly around a damn map and kill people from above. You may get a few laughs from it knowing that people can’t kill you but just so you know, you’re complete garbage. Everyone in the game knows you’re garbage, and you yourself know you’re garbage. There isn’t any other way to put it.
I have heard the most stupid excuses to why people are using this hack. Some include: 1) “Call of Duty 4 is boring! This hack makes it fun.” 2) “This hack is fun because I kill people.” or the ever so popular: 3)“The game has been out for almost 2 years, so stop crying.” Sure, those aren’t the only ones but I really don’t feel like going back and searching for excuses at the moment. Here is the issue with the people who have said those excuses, and also my answer:
1)If you believe Call of Duty 4 is boring, I highly advise you go play something else. There are tons of online games to choose from, go play them. We here at the GCN have a Top Ten PlayStation 3 Titles List in case you are looking for suggestions.
2)I have heard this one(or close to it) on many of the you tube videos and forums out there. Look, if you honestly admit that you like the hack simply because you get kills, I could imagine why you didn’t like to play without it. From writing that, I get the impression that you DON’T get kills and that you must really SUCK at the game. You’re only hurting yourselves now by hacking the game. On behalf of the honest PlayStation 3 gamers out there, we hope you get banned for life and never return to any online game or console ever again.
3) This one is the one that aches me the most. So what? Are you guy stating that just because a game has reached 2 years of life it should be hacked? Just because MW2 is in development, that gives you an excuse to ruin what we currently have to play with up until it’s release? Are you all really that stupid? Just stop ruining the game for everyone else. There are many skillful gamers out there who really don’t need to put up with this hacking bullcrap. Either play right, or just get the hell out. You’re embarrassing yourselves and also putting your PSN IDs in danger of getting banned.
I have stated this many times in this article; I don’t see what’s so fun about hacking Call of Duty 4. It just throws all your skills in the trash. Admittedly, I have done some of the “glitches” in which you can walk outside the map, but even those got boring. Sure, I got kills. But it wasn’t much fun. There wasn’t any danger. The thing about Call of Duty 4 is that it puts you in the action, you feel like you’re in a Warzone. But the feeling is absent when you’re cheating yourself to win. I never did those glitches again, and I always pushed myself further to play and be better than the rest in the room, and I have always achieved that goal. Then comes the sense of satisfaction. The satisfaction of playing honestly on the field without using any kind of game enhancements (besides the perks in the game, of course).
So now this has spread to the 360. This is going to be worse for those who do it on Microsoft’s side of the fence because cheating in a game is against code of conduct. You can bet they will be reported by Xbox Live Gamers who come across those using the UFO hack. And I thank Microsoft for implementing that feature to Xbox Live right on the dashboard. Hopefully Sony will update their XMB screen to have a REPORT PLAYER section.
Look, just don’t do it. If you are, just stop now. If you’re thinking about it, just don’t. You’re only going to look like an ass to the entire Xbox or PlayStation community and also put your ID in risk of getting banned.
And before I get panned for this, I want you to truly look back at when you first played Call of Duty 4. What made it fun? When made it feel intense? Also try to imagine the game if you were invincible the entire match. Now if you’re EXTREMELY good at the game, like myself and many others, then you’re set straight and I’m not talking to you. When I say invincible, I mean if you stand in front of an entire team and they’re shooting you and you just cant seem to die while you just shoot each one down at your pace. Is that really fun? You may get a kick out of it, but think about it in the long run. It will just get boring.
I never saw this. Damn… That is crazy… Have you seen this on the Xbox 360 version? I have been too busy playing COD:World at War…

That really sucks. Infinity Ward needs to patch this game soon. There is also a glitch in overgrown where I guess you can go into the side of the hill in the stream bed (in between the two houses in the middle of the map. Some asshole was 32-0 when a friend and I played a few weeks ago.

Look, when your in UFO mode you cant shoot people! It only gets bad when people get into objects, like crates, THEN they can shoot and cant be killed. I’ll be honest, i’ve used the glitch and it is fun, its a new way to play and there are tons more places to hide from. I dont see what the big problem is, as IW are already prodeucing a pacth.
They have 3mos and if they don’t fix it before MW2 come out im not buying it.

Very true, B Smiz. One thing about it, however, is how you can reach certain vantage points in the sky. Like walk across the map (As shown in the video in Ambush).
I hear they have released a patch, but people are some how getting around it.

I have only done them in a private match, simply because my cousin is a cheating “douchebag.” Never have I cheated online. You can take my word for it.

I’ve seen that glitch. Its in the creek between the map, right? It’s really stupid. Im just so curious on how these people find these glitches. It’s a mystery.
Live’s idea of fixing it is naming you a cheater on your Gamercard (PS3: Player Profile/Trophy Card). PlayStation Network’s idea is to ban your PS3 from being played online, ever again (not just your account and sub accounts, your actual PS3.) Like all systems, the PS3 has an identifier that when it logs onto the PlayStation Network (Like X360 when you login to Live), it knows what console it’s coming from! And don’t try to use your ID on another PS3, cause it won’t work there either and you run the risk of getting their PS3 banned too.)
I will say it’s harder to get banned on PS3, but at least if you’re getting banned, you know you’re not coming back, might as well go buy a new PS3 or an XBOX 360 and ruin their community.
Look at the lawsuit against SONY from a guy who got banned. He’s b…hing because, although he agreed to it when he signed up for PSN, he still ran his mouth off and did stuff he wasn’t supposed to do on PSN. Since these glitches started, it’s messed up multiplayer creating lag and connection issues to games.
wow i saw some guy on the tallest pillar in wetwork but i didnt know how the hell he did it but honestly infinity ward needs to patch that up QUICK!!!!!! and while they’re doing that they could add in a vibration option?? if not…just an idea

so far all the hackers/glitchers i have played with are garbage. I hate it when they do it and start getting kills but after they kill me once I make them my own personal project and make sure they don’t barely get any more kills. I agree with everyone that are against glitchers but seriously they are not that good. Usually they barely get more than 13-15 kills a match and they die almost the same amount. yea they are annoying and should be fixed but they can easily be disposed off when a nice easy sniper shot right to there head.
the main reason for hacking is because losers enjoy ruining other peoples games and just pissing everyone off. i mean take a look at Socom 2, one of the biggest online games to be released on a console and then this so called code9 came out and it drove everyone to quit the came. who enjoys flying around killing people and just ruining the game for everyone. i loved that game played it for 6 years and it finally made me quit with all the others because no matter what there were cheaters and if you were good expect to be called a cheater its not worth it. and ura glitcher is right slant six promised to listen to us and not fail like 3 and combined assult well they still changed the game completely. Socom 1 and 2 worked because it put teams of 8 people into these perfectly formed maps. now confrontation is nothing like that its the same trashy game that socom 3 and combined assault were and i blame hackers for ruining the socom universe.

Only played CoD4 yesterday for the first time in a while, I’ve been trying to work my way up the ranking in World at War, admittedly I’d got bogged down in CoD4 so that’s why I’d made the switch. I logged on for a few games yesterday and as soon as the first match began 2 of the guys on my team took off, very much a wtf?! moment, I hadn’t heard anything about the UFO hack..
My time in World at War served me well and I upped my kill/death ratio quite significantly since I’d lasted played, I finished with top points, most kills and least deaths which resulted in a torrent of abuse from all round for being a cheating flying b@stard.
Despite my protests that “I wasn’t flying around or one top of any building, check the goddamn killcam for fecks sake!”, I received much of the same abuse for the next few matches.
It was somewhat annoying, but I took the high ground and like skullking123 above, spent the next 2 hours making those UFO glitching sweaty ball-sucking c*nts pay dearly for tarring me with the same brush as their pathetic asses.
If you need to resort to glitching to get kills then I’m sorry but log off, switch off and sell your console, you’ve wasted your money, your time, everyone elses time and your using up precious bandwidth!!

Sniping someone from 100ft in the air takes skill and the death threats and abuse make this even more fun. You don’t get fun out of dieing loads, you get fun from getting a 40 kill streak.

I hope that the patch does not remove the hack, but stops it from being used in ranked matches. I think it would be a cool option to use in a private, unranked game if everyone in that game had the option to use it.
But when people use it in a ranked match, it is cheating. You are furthering your leaderboard standings by cheating others who are playing honestly.
I really hope that those caught cheating have their online profiles banned, and if not, their points totals reset. I hope that they do not have to reset everyone, but if it means we go back to a level playing field, so be it.
The cheaters ruin the game for everyone else. This is the only game I’ve played for this long and now people are ruining the fun for everyone. I hope they get their accounts banned. Glitches… fine, the programming lets you do that but this is a completely different story.
I think its starting to clear up a bit now. Not as many people seem to do it so i guess they have had their laugh and moved on. Well mostly anyways. There are still ppl doing it and a serious patch is needed asap!
Gentlemen, I’m afraid this wont get any better with MW2. To write a game that is unhackable (and trust me, Im a developer, it is possible) costs a lot of money in development. This is why there are companies like Punk buster out there taking advantage of the fact that companies want to cut that corner completely off and let someone else deal with it. However, punkbuster wouldnt exist without hacks. So most of the hacks you see out there arent written by players. They are with all probability being developed by PB.

If you play cod4 we all know you’ve tried glitching in a private match because when you see it you are angry yet intrigued at how this little bitch killed you from out/under/over the map. Im sorry to do this…But i have become extremely aggrivated by the amount of cheating taking place….Gentlemen, it is our duty to restrain ourselves from purchasing Punkbuster protected games. If the industry sees that ppl arent buying into even balances crap then we might have a fighting chance. Otherwise anti-cheat software will ruin what little honesty we have in online gaming.

fair enough having ago at people usin on live games but in private its allowed cus its not effecting scoreboards, and when you in the hack you cannot shoot you can just fly around but you use that to get in positions where people cant get you… i find it amazing how this hack was formed

I have this for the ds and im like 1 of the 13 hackers on it and yes it gets soo boring i played a fair game and the rush was amazing!
