Running With Scissors Receives U.S. Flag Flown in Iraq

The members of Running With Scissors (creators of the long-running pop culture POSTAL videogame series) have been supporters of the United States military since before Vince Desi founded the company. But since that time over a decade ago, the game developers found themselves in a position to show that support in a tangible way. “We kept getting letters from the troops asking how they could obtain the various POSTAL games, t-shirts and other items,” Desi explained. “We figured the easiest way was to simply give it to them.” Since then, RWS has made regular “air drops” of POSTAL games and company swag. And in return, as is standard operating procedure for the American military, their gratitude was overwhelming.

This was demonstrated in an especially poignant manner when Vince received a 3′ x 5′ flag that was flown over Iraq on Independence Day, 2009, on behalf of Running With Scissors. Two Certificates of Authenticity accompanied the flag, one of which specifies “this American flag flew on 4 July 2009 over Iraq in an MH-60K, Tail # 91-26373.”
A second Certificate declares: “The Flag of the United States of America accompanying this certificate was proudly flown over Syverson Base, headquarters of the combined Joint Special Operations Task Force Arabian Peninsula Balad in Iraq.”

As it was flown on the 4th of July 2009, the flag “honored the sacrifices made by the men and women of the United States military in their tireless mission to defend the United States of America… You are presented this flag as a token of our appreciation for your unwavering support.”

For perhaps the first time in history, Desi was all but speechless upon receipt of the flag “This is why we made POSTAL, and why we will continue to exercise our rights and freely express ourselves, because of the great men and women who bravely serve and protect us.”
