In celebration of the Simpson’s 500th episode, Konami will be releasing The Simpsons Arcade Game for the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace; so that means all the nostalgia without the sagging pants with a pocket full of quarters.

“Konami is dedicated to reviving retro titles that gamers have grown to love, and it doesn’t get any better than The Simpsons Arcade Game,” said Tomoyuki Tsuboi, President of Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc.

“The Simpsons is a global phenomenon with a loyal fan base, and we are thrilled to re-launch the arcade game in the downloadable space, introducing fans to a beloved classic on an entirely new platform.”

“Of all The Simpsons video games, this demented classic is my favorite,” said Matt Groening, The Simpsons Creator and Executive Producer.

The Simpsons Arcade Game features several of your favorite characters, series running gags, and locations from the Simpsons universe. In this game, players will be able to choose from four of their favorite Simpsons, including Homer, Marge, Bart, and Lisa as they attempt to save Maggie from Mr. Burns and Mr. Smithers. The game will feature four player online and offline cooperative mode, eight locations within Springfield, and various modes to choose from that’ll offer up different experiences and styles of play.

Quarter Mode replicates the original coin-op classic for a more challenging experience. Survival Mode grants players a one life experience. And Free Play Mode, designed for the more casual players, will allow for an infinite amount of continues. Also included is the Japanese version of the game that will feature new weapons, an altered scoring system, and a slightly different ending. Additionally, fans can view promotional posters and flyers made for the game back in 1991.

The Xbox 360 version of the Simpsons Arcade Game is now available to download on the Xbox Live Market Place. The PlayStation 3 version of the game is set to release tomorrow, on February 7th.

It was announced on the PS Blog that Sony services such as; the PS Store, and account management and registration, Playstation Home, as well as its Music and Video Unlimited services will be unavailable. Those who were logged in before PSN was shut down will still be able to play only, but the chances of playing with another person are slim to none.  It was taken down today at 8 AM, Pacific Time and will continue until 9 PM, Pacific Time. It’s great that PS has taken for a while, it gives you, the players, a little “You-Time” to play some single-player for a while. Now if you were looking for some DLC’s, well, you will have to wait a while til you can get the new Saints Row: The Third – GenkiBowl VII.

While the feedback was really positive on the date and the reasonable price level of the game, some questions arose about the difference of prices in the US between the XBLA version (800 MS Points, which is the equivalent of $10) and the PSN version ($12.99).

José Sanchis, CEO of Lexis Numérique explains: “During the whole development of the game, we tried to be as transparent as possible on our decision making and we believe this situation is a good opportunity to explain what is at stake. It’s also a very good opportunity to involve the community in order to decide on the final price of the game in the US.”

He adds: “First of all, we believe AMY is probably one of the most ambitious games on the PSN and XBLA. With 8 to 10 hours of gameplay, an innovative approach to the survival horror genre and a level of graphic details rarely seen on downloadable console titles, Paul Cuisset and his team at VectorCell created a very unique game.”

“We decided to have a new approach to digital distribution by proposing heavy content at a very reasonable price because we believe price is a key issue, especially during hard economic times. Indeed, we believe AMY could have been sold a little bit higher. However, the issue we have to deal with is that a price in MS points doesn’t have the same value in all countries. Indeed, because of fluctuations between the dollar and the euro, 800 MS points are currently worth $10 in the US but €10 in Europe, which is about $12.8.”

“As we have the same price in MS Points in all countries, there will be a difference of pricing whatever decision we make between countries and/or platforms. The pricing scheme we announced enables everyone to buy the game at a reasonable price with great value for the money, with an even greater deal for the XBLA gamers who indeed have it cheaper.”

“This level of price is a tremendous effort and risk for independent teams like VectorCell and Lexis Numérique, all the more as we invested probably much more money in AMY than many console games available in digital distribution. But because we didn’t explain the situation, we understand the reaction of certain US PSN gamers who don’t understand why they should pay a little bit more than their friends who play on XBLA.”

“We even decided to go further . Now that the community has the elements to understand why we proposed this price scheme, we want to involve as many players as possible to tell us what to do with the price in the US: do we keep the current situation (800 MS Points for the XBLA version and $12.99 for the PSN version) or do we cut the price and margin for the PSN version (800 MS Points for the XBLA version and $9.99 for the PSN version).

Vanguard Bandits was originally released in glorious box form from famed publisher Working Designs. Created by Human Software and released in 1998 in Japan, the game captivated users with its tactical combat and support-centric strategy role-playing.
